World Kindness Day 2020World Kindness Day is a global day that promotes the importance of being kind to each other, to yourself, and to the world. Celebrated annually on November 13, World Kindness Day highlights that positive power and compassion for others is what binds us all together. Kindness is a fundamental part of the human condition which bridges the divides of race, religion, politics, gender, and zip codes. In the book Neema’s Reason to Smile by Patricia Newman and illustrated by Mehrodokht Amini, Neema is the giver and receiver of many acts of kindness that are a testament to her character and motivate her to fulfill her dreams. Reason2Smile asked students in Debbie Cain’s 6th grade at Roland Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick, NY to describe their reasons to smile and dreams for a better world. These are some of the responses: Reasons to smile include family, friends, home, pets, bicycle riding, sports - particularly soccer and basketball, dance, Halloween, and teachers. A few of the dreams that were collected in their dream baskets include equality for all, a safe world, a COVID-free world, the ability to go on vacation, the ability to see grandparents or family that live outside of New York, and to see people smile again. Even though World Kindness day is on November 13, celebrating dreams and reason to smile should happen every day. So spread reasons to smile and like this colored brick says “Knowing I can, makes me smile!” Neema's Reason to SmileYou can share author Patricia Newman reading Neema's Reason to Smile here
