This past month, two awesome librarians taught their students about Reason2Smile and our work at the Jambo Jipya School in Kenya. Nicole Taormina, librarian at Boyle Road Elementary, and Melinda Alford librarian at Unqua Elementary School used Neema's Reason to Smile by Patricia Newman and our curriculum trunk to inspire their students with lessons and research materials. Students shared their thoughts and dreams in a lively discussion and afterward participated in a recycled paper beads bracelet workshop. The bracelets were proudly worn by the students as a reminder of the educational opportunities they provide through Reason2Smile's work. Students could also choose to gift the bracelet to a special someone this holiday season - giving someone else a reason to smile. Boyle Road Elementary also participated in a Zoom call where they shared a beautiful presentation that they put together about Jambo Jipya. Here are a few things they had to say about the workshop: Thomas -Thank you for telling me so many facts about Reason2Smile and Jambo Jipya. Ariana -Thank You Miss Donna! It was so exciting to meet you! My favorite part was when you answered all of our questions. Joseph -Thank you for answering all our questions about Kenya and Reason2Smile. Thank you for your inspiration. Loved making the amazing bracelets. Jillian -Hi Miss Donna, thank you for taking your time to do this with us and teaching us about Kenya and telling us more about Reason2Smile. I hope once this whole thing is over you can visit us in school in person, thank so much!!!!! Reason2Smile works with schools, libraries, community service clubs, religious institutions so if you are interested in collaborating please send us an email and we can plan a program that best suits your students/school/organization.
